Girls’ Softball Rumba set between Geckos and Dolphins

By R. Vincent Tupaz
For Variety

SOUTHERN High School will be the scene of the glory that will become the 2007 High School Girls Softball Champion of the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam. On Saturday the originally scheduled match was cancelled due to rain.
The IIAAG Girls’ High School Softball Championship match-up is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today at Southern.
Last week, the George Washington Geckos slammed past the Norte Dame Royals 17-4 to earn a spot against the Southern High Dolphins in the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam High School Girls’ Softball League title game. The Dolphins knocked out the Simon Sanchez Sharks, the league defending champions 3-1 last Wednesday.
The Lady Geckos come in with a strong 11-1 regular season record. Southern nipped at their feet all season long with a 10-1 record. Both teams hail from the more competitive Gadao division of the IIAAG.
Before the championship game was axed, the consolation game between the Lady Royals and the Lady Sharks was played. The Sharks overcame the Royals 5-3 and finish with a third place trophy.
