TINIAN Mayor Jose P. San Nicolas
on Friday signed a contract for the emergency repair of the islands
harbor.
The agreement was signed by contractor Don Power, director/manager of
FPA Pacific Corp., and Commonwealth Ports Authority vice chairman Serafin
Dela Cruz.
The mayor reprogrammed $1.037 million for the project following the adoption
of Tinian Legislative Delegation Resolution 15-08.
The resolution stated that the amount can be reprogrammed from various
sources for the emergency repair of Tinian harbor.
It added that $500,000 remains available for continuing or new capital
improvement projects and $500,000 also remains untouched from the Tinian
hemodialysis facility and collateral equipment project.
The resolution also calls for the reprogramming of $200,000 appropriated
for road projects on Tinian.
Mayor San Nicolas declared a state of emergency in October, citing the
continued deterioration of the islands harbor dock.
He said the condition of the harbor facilities on Tinian will continue
to pose a danger to the people and the islands economy if no emergency
repairs are made.
The mayor is very pleased that this project is finally ready to
begin and hes also pleased that the projects contractor is
a local company, FPA, the mayors chief executive officer John
Untalan said.
He added that San Nicolas thanks his staff, community advisors and the
entire leadership of Tinian for standing by him and supporting this project.
