THE Public School System has
created a new position assistant to the associate commissioner
for administrative services and named Carl Allen F. Dela Cruz to
the post.
Dela Cruz, 30, will help supervise administrative services programs.
Dela Cruz, a former substitute teacher at Marianas High School for four
months, assumed the new position on Sept. 11 last year.
PSS is still in the process of hiring an associate commissioner for administrative
services, a position which Education Commissioner David M. Borja previously
held.
I am expected to supervise all the programs the associate commissioner
for administrative services is in charge of, Dela Cruz said in an
interview. These include procurement and supply, food and nutrition,
the e-rate program, the transportation division, and the media department
at the central office as well as in Lower Base.
Before joining PSS, Dela Cruz worked for a number of companies including
Joeten.
I have held previous jobs, but this is the most challenging for
me, he said.
I am helping in operations and personnel staff development. I am
now getting instructions from and report directly to the acting associate
commissioner for administrative services, who is also our human resources
officer, Charlie Kenty, Dela Cruz said.
Asked about his compensation and contract terms, Dela Cruz said his pay
is subject to the 10 percent cut imposed by the austerity holiday law.
He did not disclose the terms of his contract.
He said the biggest challenge of his job is to try to make changes
because we do have a lot departments and each department is like a separate
village which has its own dynamics. I want to help move them in the right
direction.
Dela Cruz is a graduate of the University of Hawaii.
