The students of Peleliu Elementary
School has for the first time has availed the money out of the Education
Trust Fund that Governor Jackson Ngiraingas established some 20 years
ago.
The trust fund is deposited at the Bank of Hawaii.
A letter to the bank on March 9 signed by Ngiraingas and school principal
Ngereblant Arurang noted that both are confirming that the resolution
adopted and approved by the donor of the Trust Fund account that PES may
withdraw funds from this account to fulfill the needs of students.
The students are currently participating in the 2007 Education Awareness
Week.
Ngiraingas said that the Trust Fund was created in 1986 when Ngiraingas
decided that all of his incomes as State Legislator for three years from
1986-1988 and as Governor from 1988 to present were put into the "Jackson
R. Ngiraingas Peleliu Educational Trust Fund."
"This money is exclusively for the use of the students for whatever
activities that may improve their education," Ngiraingas said.
He said that his wife Terry, who is a clerk at the Supreme Court, would
also start putting in part of her bimonthly salaries to the trust fund.
Bank record showed that the current account balance for trust fund is
over $4,000.
