Patriots boosted their chances to maintain a perfect record, while Toyota
Matrix notched its first win in the Majors division of the 2007 Saipan
Little League Baseball tournament last Sunday at the Miguel Tan
Ge Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Patriots, who won their first five games, were leading the Wells Fargo/As
Matuis Twins, 17-3, after two and a half innings.
The Patriots-Twins tiff and the two remaining matches last Sunday were
called off due to haze caused by gas and steam fumes from the Anatahan
volcano.
The AA Enterprise/Tanapag Braves, who have a 4-1 record, were to meet
the Kautz Glass/Pirates in the third game, while the Hustlers were to
face the Bank of Saipan/Red Sox in the fourth match.
Starting pitcher Brian Camacho was still perfect at the plate going 3-for-3
before the game was suspended. He had three runs, three doubles and two
RBIs. Camacho pitched in the first two innings and had four strikeouts.
Relief pitcher Lamarc Iguel was 2-for-3 with three runs, a singles, a
double, a walk and an RBI. He pitched at the top of the third and had
two strikeouts.
In the first game, the Toyota Matrix snapped its four-game losing skid
with a 20-9 victory over the OlAces 1.
Catcher LJ Hemley went 3-for-4 at the plate scoring five runs and making
three singles, a walk and an RBI.
Centerfielder Alonzo Pedro was 2-for-5 with five runs, a single, a triple
and three walks.
In the Seniors division, the Sablan Topline/Falcons downed the Pirates,
4-1.
Marley Techur pitched for the Falcons in the first six innings allowing
no runs, one hit and two walks. He had 14 strikeouts before Vicente Cabrera
replaced him on the mound in the last and seventh inning.
Second baseman Aaron Deleon Guerrero scored the Pirates lone run
at the bottom of the seventh.
There were no games in the Juniors division last Sunday, as the Fielders-Pirates
tiff set for 12 noon was cancelled.
Officials of the SLLB will be announcing the schedule of the suspended
games.
Meanwhile, action in the Big League division resumes tonight with the
Northern Angels facing the PTI Fielders.
