THE seventh edition of the
annual PIC Pepsi Tennis Championships will start on March 20 with organizers
holding competitions in singles and doubles events at the PIC hardcourt
in San Antonio.
The PIC netfest will be holding contests on two weekends. From March 30
to April 1, participants in the singles events will have their days on
the court, while the doubles events will take place on the second weekend
from April 6 to 8.
The singles division will have competitions in the mens Open,
4.0 and 3.0, while the womens will feature Open and 4.0.
The juniors division will have the boys and girls 12-and-under and
9-and-under categories.
The mens doubles will have contests in the Open, 4.0 and 3.0 divisions,
while the womens and mixed divisions will only have two categories,
namely Open and 4.0.
The entry fee is $15 for singles events and $20 for doubles per team.
The deadline for the submission of entries for the singles is March 28,
while doubles participants must turn in their entry fees and registration
forms on or before April 4 at 6 p.m.
The top two winners in the singles and doubles Open divisions are to receive
cash prizes, while other winners will get prizes donated by tournament
sponsors.
PIC-Saipan, Pacific Trading Company, Tinian Dynasty and Hyatt Regency
Saipan are sponsoring this years netfest.
The defending champions in the 2007 edition of the PIC tennis tournament
are Thea Minor (girls juniors), Benjie Decena (boys juniors),
Mayuko Arriola (womens Open), Peter Loyola (mens Open), Sonny
Decena (mens 4.0) and Gary Ramsey (mens 3.0).
The 2006 doubles winners were Joy Minor/Cleofe Santos (4.0), Loyola/Faheem
Ebrahim (Open), Fr. Ryan Jimenez/Boyet Minor (4.0) and Arriola and Vivian
Lee (Open).
