THE Guam Police Department arrested a 20-year-old Sumay resident after allegedly running a woman off a road and chasing after a GPD emergency vehicle on Saturday.
Serefino Pefina III, an active U.S. military personnel, was charged by GPD with reckless driving. He was booked and confined.
At around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, police officers were on their way to the Sumay area to back up another officer handling a car crash.
“Officers turned on their lights and noticed an individual recklessly driving a white Hyundai Elantra at high speed. The police officers pulled him over. They confronted the man and found that he was actually chasing after police,” Guzman said.
When they were about to cite Pefina, a female motorist pulled over and told police that Pefina ran her off the road at the Route 1 Kmart area in Upper Tumon.
“Officers disregarded the citation they were about to issue and ended up arresting him for reckless conduct,” Guzman added.
The active military personnel told police that he was driving at high speed because his commanding officer told him to report at a certain time.
Police seek vandals
In other news, police responded to the Agat basketball court on a report of vandalism on Monday afternoon.
When they arrived, they noticed paint splashed over the basketball court and a tipped outhouse.
“They are reconstructing the basketball court. They put graffiti on the court with yellow paint,” Guzman said.
