GAMES in the KFAS 2007 President’s Cup last Sunday were suspended and will resume next month, according to the Korean Football Association of Saipan.
Only four games were finished at the Oleai Sports Complex field leaving two matches in the elimination round and two games in the playoffs.
L&S/Alliance and Real Mariana played in the first game with the latter winning, 2-1.
L&A/Alliance scored the first goal in the match with Kwang Sik Kim drilling a goal in the first half.
But Real Mariana recovered in the second when Dong Seuk Kim and Min Kyu Han nailed one goal apiece.
Fiesta Inter/Independents beat Korean A in the second game, 4-2, with NMI National Coach Jeff “Ziggy” Korytoski leading the team scoring a goal in the second half.
L&S/Alliance failed to enter the win column when Tinian Dynasty forced a 1-1 draw in the third game, while Fiesta Inter/Independents were also engaged in a draw against Onwell, 1-1 in the fourth match.
Real Mariana was to meet Tinian Dynasty in the fifth game when organizers suspended the games due to haze caused by the gas and steam fumes emitted by the Anatahan volcano and from fires across Southeast Asia.
Also called off was the Korea A-Onwell tiff in the last game in the elimination.
KFAS in a media release said they will announce the date for the continuation of the annual tournament later.
The top two placers in the tournament will square off for the title, while the third and fourth finishers after the elimination round will battle for the third place trophy.
Games in the President’s Cup are played in two halves, with each half lasting for 30 minutes. A 10-minute break is implemented.
At the end of the tournament, KFAS will give awards to the Most Valuable Player, Best Defender and Best Goalie. They will also award a sportsmanship trophy and fete the player to score the most goals.
In the team awards, the first placer will receive a trophy and $200 cash, while the second and third finishers will get $150 and $100, respectively.
