Rep. Pete A. Tenorio is inviting CNMI high school students interested
in seeking a nomination for admission into the U.S. Naval Academy to write
a letter of intent as well as complete the necessary application paperwork.
Tenorio is encouraging young women and men who want a first rate education
and are willing to serve their country to apply.
The Northern Marianas has a slot open for incoming freshman for the class
entering in 2008 at the academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Now is the time for interested students to begin the application process.
The deadline is Dec. 15, 2007.
While five CNMI students have already graduated, three of Tenorios
own nominees are currently in the military system: Cadet Robert Myung
Chin Kim at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to graduate in 2010;
Midshipmen Caroline Claire Lynch who is expected to graduate in May 2008;
and Jun Vicente Mihara Chong in 2009 both at the Naval Academy.
I have always believed that our students would be able to compete
successfully and they have. I also must point out that if our students
are serious about a nomination, they have to make sure they submit all
materials on time, Tenorio said.
He added, If you want to become a leader, serve your country, and
receive a high-quality education, apply to one of our nations service
academies. The academy offers the opportunity for academic and intellectual
growth, personal development, and provides leadership training for men
and women in many career fields. Besides a cost-free education, all students
at the academy receive a modest pay and allowance. Graduates become commissioned
officers in the armed services.
Students interested in seeking nomination to the Naval Academy can receive
further information by contacting . Claire Sablan at 664-5651/2, fax 664-5654
or Pete Torres in Washington, D.C. at 202-673-5869, fax 202-673-5873.
