((MHS) The Chamorro
Club of Marianas High School participated in the 4th Annual Chamorro Language
Competition or Fino Chamoru Na Kompetasion at the University of
Guam on March 12-14.
Sixteen students from MHS competed in this years competition along
with students from George Washington High School, Tinian High School,
Simon Sanchez High School, and Southern High School of Guam.
This years theme: I Finaloffan-ña yan I Mamaila-ña.
Here is a list of competition categories and the Marianas High School
and Tinian High School students that won.
1. Oratorical: 2nd Place, Naomi Sablan, MHS
2. Poetry Recitation: 1st Place, Naomi Sablan, MHS
3. Proficiency: 1st Place, Josephine Agulto, MHS
4. Proficiency: 2nd Place, Joshua Dueñas, MHS
5. Male Singer: 1st Place: Joseph Ada, Tinian High School
6. Male Singer: 2nd Place, Courtney Nakazato, MHS
7. Female Singer: 1st Place, Juanette Villagomez, MHS
8. Song with Dance: 1st Place, MHS
9. Dramatic Cultural Interpretation (Skit): 3rd Place, MHS
A majority of the awards were given to Marianas High Schools Chamorro
Club. Club advisors Patty Cruz, Lumi Bermudes, Anita Sablan, Alvin Sablan
and Ms. Taisacan all expressed excitement for the club working hard to
claim those prizes.
Special thanks to AM Foil Express on Guam for donating name plates for
the trophies.
