POLICE arrested one adult and four minors in connection with the destruction of the Agat basketball court, thanks to concerned citizens who tipped off police after reading the vandalism incident in the media.
Guam Police Department public information officer Allan Guzman told Variety that the minors are aged 13, 14, 16 and 17.
The fifth individual arrested was Brian Biera Jr., 20, from Agat.
Biera was charged with criminal mischief, guilt by complicity, conspiracy, and four counts of jurisdiction over an adult. He remains behind bars.
The minors were charged with criminal mischief and were taken into custody by the Department of Youth Affairs.
The vandalism took place Monday afternoon at the Agat basketball court, which is under reconstruction.
The suspects in custody allegedly splashed paint, as well as put graffiti in the facility.
Man takes bleachers apart
Dededo Precinct officers arrested a man after another concerned citizen reported suspicious activity at the Astumbo basketball court Tuesday night.
Arrested and charged was Vincent Paul Ignacio, 42, of Toto.
“At 12:25 a.m., police received a call about something suspicious going on at the Astumbo Community Center’s basketball court. When police got there, they were able to apprehend an individual who disassembled the bleachers and took the aluminum fixtures (brackets) to be sold for scrap,” Guzman told Variety.
Ignacio, at the time, was using a black Nissan King Cab pickup truck. He was booked and released.
Dededo Precinct officers returned the stolen goods to the Dededo vice mayor’s office.
Guzman encourages residents to report any suspicious activity in their surroundings to the Guam Police Department at 472-8911 or Guam Crime Stoppers at 477-HELP (4357).
Bus driver arrested
Faculty, students, and staff at Simon Sanchez High School were surprised yesterday morning when Dededo Precinct officers arrested a Department of Public Works school bus driver who had just dropped students off.
According to Guzman, the bus driver was arrested at 10:30 a.m. for assaulting another bus driver on Tuesday.
Jesse Victor Cruz, 42, of Barrigada, was arrested for getting into a fight with another bus driver at the Harmon bus station.
Cruz was charged with assault and terrorizing. He was booked and released.
“Police made several attempts to summon the bus driver for questioning but he did not appear. They looked for him and found him at Simon Sanchez High School yesterday and arrested him while he was on duty,” Guzman said.
