A Long-running
basketball league will expand its offerings for fans next week as its
season gets underway.
For the first time ever the islands Philippine Amateur Basketball
League (PABL) will host a Womens league as part of its Spring format.
According to Bobby Zamora of the PABL, interest in this season was immense.
So much so that the PABL will pare down the mens league from 14
interested teams to just 10. We have about 14 teams, and thats
too many teams so we need to minimize to at least just 10 teams,
explained Zamora.
Meanwhile the inaugural Womens Pilipino Amateur Basketball League
will boast five teams. Well have five teams for women, and
this is going to be the first time were going to have a womens
basketball league with the PABL, said Zamora.
Were going to have a really good mens team this year
offered Zamora. Its very exciting - the competition will be extremely
competitive and it will be entertaining this season, added Zamora.
The PABL has existed for 32 years. The league is slated to start on March
28. Zamora told the Variety that the both the PABL and WPABL were finalizing
schedules and venues as of yesterday and a formal announcement will be
made this evening at 7 p.m. during a press conference at Noble Romans
Pizza in Tumon.
Interested men or women should call Zamora at 898-3310 or Diony Tanedo
at 888-5902.
