A 15-year old
boy was struck by a car whose driver was allegedly intoxicated.
Vice President and Justice Minister Elias Camsek Chin said that the driver
was detained for the incident.
Chin said the incident occurred last March 17 near Airai View Hotel at
around 1:30 p.m.
Chin said the victim was riding his bike when the driver later found to
be under the influence of alcohol lost control of the wheel and hit the
boy.
The boy was riding his bike near the basketball court in Airai when he
was struck. A witness saw the incident and immediately called the police
for help.
Chin said that the boy sustained laceration on the head.
Chin said the boy stayed in the hospital overnight and was later released
after treatment.
The vice president warned the public against driving intoxicated because
it could lead to accidents.
