THE semis cast in the Belau Amateur Softball Association Masters League was completed last Sunday with Seabridge getting the top seeding in the playoffs.
Seabridge claimed the No. 1 spot and the pennant after beating PTI, 9-6, last Sunday at the Dandan Elementary School Ballfield.
After trailing by two, 4-6, at the bottom of the fifth inning, Seabridge’s defense held in the last two innings, shutting out PTI to nail a come-from-behind win.
Seabridge finished the regular season with an 11-1 record, while PTI slipped to second place with a 9-3 slate.
PTI played two games last Sunday and boosted its chances for the pennant when it blanked Keblois after only five innings, 19-0, before bowing to Seabridge.
PTI third baseman Ed Kapileo was 4-for-5 against Keblois with four singles, two runs and an RBI.
Jack Diaz also helped PTI’s cause going 4-for-5 with four singles, a run and three RBIs.
Seabridge and PTI’s opponents in the semis are Che’lus and Kamesang, respectively.
Kamesang finished the regular season in third place with a 7-5 record.
It won its last game against Adi Omdung last Sunday after only four and a half innings, 14-2.
Kamesang allowed Adi Omdung to two runs in the first innings, but blanked its foes in the next three and a half innings to post an easy victory.
Ben Borja led Kamesang going 3-for-3 with three singles and a run.
Che’lus notched the last semis ticket after ending the regular season with a 6-6 record.
The semifinals will start this Sunday with a best-of-three games format.
Meanwhile, BASA president Brian Adelbai is calling on teams interested in joining the BASA Open tournament to attend a meeting on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room.
Adelbai said that if teams submit the requirements on time, they are planning to open the league on April 15 at the Dandan ballfield.
Last year, 16 teams participated in the tournament with the Survivors winning the championship.
