STUDENTS from San Antonio
Elementary School won the Easter house design contest organized this week
by a business group in the Garapan tourist district.
The students received the $2,000 first prize after garnering 240 points
from the panel of judges during the selection process that started right
after the children constructed their Easter house on Wednesday.
Teacher Rita Carreon accompanied the students who were selected from different
grade levels.
She said the children used soda cans, discarded styrofoam plates, old
newspapers, coconut husks and egg shells to come up with a miniature house
that even has a library.
Paseo De Marianas Promoters Inc., headed by Misako Kamata, held the contest
in celebration of Easter this year.
Like the successful Christmas tree decoration contest held by the group
in December last year, the house design contest required the participants
to use recyclables in their entries.
Dandan Elementary School won the second prize of $1,500 while San Vicente
Elementary School won the $1,000 third prize.
Those who won the $500 Easter Bunny gifts are Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary
School, Tanapag Elementary School and Garapan Elementary School.
Sponsors of the contest were Koji Kimura of Treasures Inc., which owns
the Colors Department store and Beach Delimart; Hideaki Sawada of Americana
Corp. and Emperor Corp., which owns Furusato Restaurant; and Misako Kamata
of Misa Enterprises which owns Kinpachi Restaurant.
