KAGMAN Elementary School yesterday
concluded a busy week of promoting science awareness among its students
through a science fair as well as theme and drawing competitions.
This year marks the schools 4th annual science fair which saw the
participation of nearly 700 students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
There were 40 entries in the fair and winning teams were chosen from each
grade level.
Three entries were adjudged winners in the theme and drawing contests.
According to Nelly Sablan, the schools science coordinator, the
students work was graded based on overall presentation, creativity,
originality and overall concept.
The students who were awarded medals and ribbons for winning the drawing
competition were April Jean Cabrera and Katelynn Delos Reyes, 1st; Emmalou
Cabrera, 2nd; and Gregory Manuel Sablan, 3rd.
In the theme contest, the winners were first grader Frances Santos whose
entry Science leads us to a journey beyond imagination and discovers
reality, became the overall theme of the competition.
Placing second in the theme contest was Katelynn delos Reyes, while Gregory
Manuel Sablan Jr finished 3rd.
The entries in the science fair included how to avoid being shocked, meal
for mold, making a geyser, volcano eruption, mixing colors, tin can telephone,
gases and volume, water pollution, coin battery and a propeller-driven
boat.
The fair keeps improving every year. We have lots of analytical
projects this year and it helps our students to develop their creativity
and resourcefulness
not only in science but all content areas,
Sablan said.
Those who served as judges in yesterdays competition were Jonathan
Arriola of the Division of Environmental Quality, Chailang Palacios of
Public Health, Joseph San Nicolas of Chacha Oceanview Jr. High, and Monica
Pangelinan, William S. Reyes Elementary Schools science coordinator.
