A Smorgasbord of weekend sports
will entice even the most finicky athlete or fan to trek outdoors to enjoy
a day of competitions.
A host of contests are scheduled today and tomorrow including some paddling
action, mixed martial arts fights, the Special Olympics, high caliber
soccer play and on Sunday, an early morning Marathon will kick off at
3:30 a.m.
On Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. over 100 athletes will participate
in the Special Olympics Track and Field event. The venue will be at the
Ramsey field at the John F. Kennedy High School in Tamuning.
Nearby, the The GKCF OC1 Sprint Championships will be held this at the
Matapang Beach, Tumon. The paddling race is a requirement to make Team
Guam for SPG, all the islands best paddlers will be racing for individual
honors in 500 and 1000 meter course, using the SPG course. New this year,
OC2 and K1 heats will be held, with the winners automatically setting
new Guam records.
On Saturday evening, the popular PXC Mixed Martial Arts will be televised
live for free on MCV Channel 2 at 8p.m. There will be a total of five
bouts that will feature fighters including the main event Wenyu Bamba
versus Sunny Chargualaf.
On Sunday, March 25, veteran running enthusiasts will participate in the
Guam Running Clubs 36 th Annual Guam Marathon and Ekiden relay.
According to Mr. Marsh, GRC race director for the event the Guam Marathon
is, one of the oldest races in the Pacific IThe Marathon is a 26.
2 mile race. The Assembly point is at the University of Guam Field House.
Show time is pegged at 3:30 a.m. and go time will be at 4a.m. Registration
is closed; however fans are welcomed to cheer the runners on at one of
fourteen aid stations or along the race route.
There also be soccer qualifiers in the weekend action between the NMI
and Guam and other action.
