with weekly prizes over the next few months regarding knowledge of Senate
Bill 7-65.
Each week, there will be a question based on this bill and a random selection
of a winner will be made from the correct answers.
Senate Bill 7-65 is Palaus Comprehensive Tobacco legislation, which
was passed on first reading in 2005.
When this bill is passed into law, it will bring Palau into compliance
with the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the first ever international
treaty on Public Health and one that Palau is party to.
The legislation provides for the control of tobacco sales and distribution,
exposure to second hand smoke, youth access, sponsorship and promotion,
manufacturing and taxation.
Readers will find an ad with a question regarding the proposed legislation
in Palaus major newspapers. Contestants must submit the answer on
a sheet of paper with a) their name and phone contact number and b) the
number of the ad.
Entries may be dropped off at the Office of the Tobacco Control Program
located on the 3rd floor of the Surangel Building or emailed to STUN@palaunet.com
by the deadline indicated on the ad.
Each week, a winner will be drawn from all correct answers. (One entry
per person each week).
The answers can be found in brochures that summarize the legislation.
The brochures will be distributed at several smoke free restaurants including
Ramen Express, Yokohama, Turtle Cove, Desomel, The Taj, Meduu Ribtal,
Sarahs Yum Yum, Longshoremen, Dichem and Furusato.
Other locations include PNOC, PCC Administration and Belau National Hospital
OPD so that contestants have a chance to find the correct answers. The
Tobacco Control Program office will be distributing the brochures, but
will not provide any answers by phone or in person.
Answers may also be found in Senate Bill 7-65 which can be requested by
