Dan Munoz takes 3rd in Stingrey Classic

By R. Vincent Tupaz
For Variety

A WEEK ago the island’s very own Mr. Guam told island residents that he was ready to go pro and eager to represent the island as he participated in his first Bodybuilding national qualifier in Honolulu, Hawaii.
On Friday, Mr. Guam, Dan Munoz took to the stage in the 2007 Stingrey Classic. He took third in his first contest since becoming the island’s premiere bodybuilder after winning the Guam National Bodybuilding Championship last November.
“I placed third,” stated Munoz. Asked what his priority was after Friday’s competition. “Eat!” that’s it, stated Mr. Guam.
Munoz’s trainer and nutritionist Tony Morrison said that Munoz would train and work for other competitions, but hoped to place high enough to enter other national contest in the states.
The Stingrey Classic-Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure competition was held at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. The competition is a national qualifier and important in the hierarchy of bodybuilding contests. Those successful in the competition are then afforded an opportunity to compete in the American National Bodybuilding Championships or the Junior National Bodybuilding Championships; either, a precursor to turning pro and allowing for entry into the ultimate bodybuilding competition such as Mr. Olympia.
During his training regimen prior to the contest, Munoz told the Variety that he started his daily routine at about 4:30 a.m. with a daily cardio and weight training regimen. Afterwards, he would trek home to prep his daily meals. Then around noon and whenever he could, Munoz returned to the gym for more weightlifting. At 9 p.m. it’s straight to bed. “Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. It’s a 24/7 routine,” explained Munoz.
