Staal, Opal lead TagaKids winners

KAI Staal and Opal Northern led the top finishers in yesterday’s TagaKids.
Staal dominate all three legs of the race clocking three minutes, .05 seconds in the swim leg, 24:42 in the bike and 15:31 in the run. He finished the race in 43:15 and topped the boys’ 12 to 13 age group.
Participants in the 13-and-under division swam 100m making two turns at the buoy at the Pacific Islands Club. They biked 5K making two loops from PIC’s south parking lot to Coral Ocean Point’s tennis court. The run leg was one loop on the PIC grounds then runners sprinted to Agingan Point before going back to the parking lot and the finish line.
Opal Northern won the girls’ 8 to 9 age group with her total time of 22:51. She clocked 2:10 in the swim, 15:26 in the bike and 5:15 in the run.
Participants in the 9-and-under division had the same course, but it had a shorter distance than the older age group. The swim was 50m, the bike was only one loop from the parking lot to COP’s tennis court and the run was one loop on PIC grounds.
The placing second behind Northen was Nina Okamoto, who timed in at 24:50.
Bradley Brostom finished second behind Staal with 44:00.
In the boys’ 6 to 7 age group, Sam Cramer timed in at 32:54 after clocking 3:24 in the swim, 22:22 in the bike and 6:08 in the run. Michael Jones finished second with a time of 41:15.
Michah Griffin ruled the boys’ 8 to 9 division with a time of 23:19, followed by Bryce Daly (27:24) and Misaki Cramer (29:28).
Nadia Sahid placed first in the girls’ 6 to 9 age group with her 38:55 beating Emily Jones, who posted 41:10.
Kristi Lowell won the 10-and-over division timing in at 35:48.
Toshi Ikamoto topped the boys’ 10 to 11 age group clocking 46:43. Clay McCollough-Stearns was second (49:05), Rafael Jones placed third (53:10) and Angelo Jones (1:03:19) finished fourth.
Ashley Northen timed in at 50:31 to win the girls’ 10 to 11 age group, while Emma McCollough-Stearns (54:18) ruled the girls’ 12 to 13 division.
Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each division.
