Human resource group to discuss federal labor law

(SHRM) — This month, the CNMI chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management’s topic of discussion on Thursday will be the Fair Labor Standards Act, specifically on overtime calculations and other relevant information.
The presenter is Richard Hamilton, senior investigator of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The venue is Charley’s Cabaret, Pacific Islands Club, and the meeting will start at 11:30 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m.
The cost is $15 for SHRM members and $20 for non-members.
The majority of businesses in the CNMI as well as the government are subject to meet the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Family Medical Leave Act.
The FLSA not only is a means to maintaining the minimum standards of living necessary for health, efficiency and the general well-being of workers, it is also a way for employers to provide and maintain standard labor conditions among workers.
Each state, district, territory or possession of the United States have defined written policy that each jurisdiction must abide by.
Hamilton has been an investigator for the past 15 years and has spent the past five years in the CNMI.
He is part of several task forces including Hawaii and American Samoa.
He has also been a Series 7 financial consultant in Virginia for the past five years.
