THE last of local high school action sports season for the 2006-2007 school year is just around the corner.
According to Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam Vice President Marty Boudreau sports for the fourth quarter include Boys’ Volleyball, Girls’ Soccer, Paddling and Track and Field.        “Soccer and volleyball should be starting by the frst week of April,” explained Boudreau.
The league will maintain its format of the Taga and Gadao divisions and organizers expect the season to be competitive. Boudreau said the division format helps move the season along and ensures as much as possible that athletes are able to experience a competitive and balanced round. “We have a tight time frame when we play because we have to go by the quarter. So when we go to division, it saves a little bit of time,” said Boudreau.
Track and Field will host most if not all of its meets at the newly refurbished Ramsey Field at John F. Kennedy High School. The Guam Kayak and Canoe Federation will officiate and handle the Paddling contests. “We expect another stellar season from them,” said   Boudreau.
In boys’ volleyball, FD is set to defend its title and Boudreau said the league can expect good things from his George Washington Geckos. “Volleyball is always competitive, so we expect a good season from them.”
In girls’ soccer Harvest will put forward a varsity team. And it looks like St. Paul’s may opt out of this season.
The proposed schedule has the soccer season opening up fourth quarter sports next Monday. The final schedules will be released as soon as it’s approved by all participating schools.
