THE big education
Golf tourney is just a week away as St. Johns hosts it annual fundraising
extravaganza in the name of education.
Next Sat. April 7, the St. Johns School will host its third annual
Scholarship Golf Tournament. St. Johns Jenny Shimizu explained that
the effort is intended to raise funds for students on scholarships at
the school. Proceeds raised will help offset costs associated with attending
the college prep school.
This allows students who illustrate high academic standing and demonstrate
other personal achievements but cannot afford the annual tuition a chance
to enhance their academic gifts with an education from St. Johns.
Dr. Jorge Nelson, Headmaster of the school noted that 39 students have
thus far received scholarships to attend St. Johns due in large
part to the success of the annual tournament and other contributions.
The need-based program assists students in grades 6 to 12 who maintain
high academic standing and demonstrate other personal achievements,
stated Nelson.
As of yesterday, the schools website invited sponsors for the event. Sponsors
are still being sought and are urged to contact Jeni Shimizu at jshimizu@stjohnsguam.com
or 646.8080. stated the site. The 3rd Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament
will take place at the LeoPalace Resort Guam. Mr. Nike Inoue of Nanbo
Insurance and an alumnus of St. Johns will serve as the Tournament
Chair for the second year in a row.
During game day, Check in is at 7:00 a.m. and includes a continental-style
breakfast before tee off at 8:00 a.m. The Two Person Best Ball entry fee
