SEABRIDGE and PTI arranged their title duel in the 2007 Belau Amateur Softball Association Slow-pitch Masters League after sweeping separate rivals in the semifinals last Sunday at the Dandan Elementary School Ballfield.
Manny Tenorio pitched in no relief and was perfect at the plate to power Seabridge to an 11-1 victory over Che’luus in Game 1 of their best-of-three semis series.
Tenorio went 3-for-3 with three singles and three runs.
Tony Luzama teamed up with Tenorio in helping Seabridge draw first blood in the semis series, as the former hit two inside-the-park home runs and had six RBIs. Jeff Peterson also had a good game going 2-for-3 with two singles and one run.
Seabridge secured the finals seat after pulling off a 10-9 victory in Game 2.
Che’luus almost forced a deciding Game 3 when it denied Seabridge any runs in the last two innings.
Entering the bottom of the seventh, Che’luus was at bat with Seabridge leading, 10-6, and the former needing five or more runs to steal the win.
John Mararita, Roland Sablan and Jeff Cabrera scored a run apiece, but the Che’luus next two batters were thrown out. Vince Sablan was the fourth batter and advanced to first base after a Seabridge error, but the Che’luus failed to extend the game when Tenorio struck out fifth batter Jack Reyes.
In the other semis match, PTI also notched a 2-0 sweep against Kamesang.
PTI allowed Kamesang one run at the top of the first and then blanked its foe in the next six innings for a 4-1 victory in Game 1.
PTI was without a run in the first four innings, but picked up the pace at the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs. It nailed one more run at the bottom of the sixth to peg the final score.
Kamesang gave PTI a good fight in the second game, but still the latter prevailed, 9-4, to set a best-of-three title showdown with pennant champion Seabridge.
Meanwhile, BASA president Brian Adelbai is calling on teams interested in joining the BASA Open tournament to attend a meeting tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room.
BASA is hoping to kick off the Open tournament on April 15 at the Dandan ballfield.
The Survivors won last year’s championship beating 15 other teams.
