THE 24-year-old man who was
among the four students who drowned in the waters off Forbidden Island
on Friday was laid to rest yesterday at the Tanapag cemetery.
More than 50 relatives, friends and members of Korean Presbyterian Church
gathered at the cemetery to pay their last respects to Jung Hwan Ku.
Ku is survived by his brother Jung Kun Ku, and his mother Park Young Ok,
owner of Dae Jang Kum Restaurant in Susupe.
Kus father was in Indonesia.
Kus immediate relatives from South Korea and Japan, as well as his
classmates and friends, came to the burial.
Some of the 17 students who went to Forbidden Island along with Ku and
the other drowning victims were also at the cemetery but they did not
wish to be interviewed.
Jonathan Joo of the Korean Association of Saipan said the remains of Mi
Ra Yang, 20, Sang Won Seo, 19, and Jin Ah Kim, 18, were to be flown to
Seoul last night.
Joo said the families and the Korean Association of Saipan are very thankful
for all the support that the CNMI government and community have extended,
including the Department of Public Safety for escorting the funeral hearse.
Joo said the families paid for the funeral expenses but the association
helped them in the processing of the papers and other required documents.
