Former Rep. Sablan is GOP Precinct 4 club chairman again

FORMER Rep. Benigno Sablan is once again Precinct 4 club chairman of the NMI Republican Party.
Sablan was elected to his old post on Monday evening.
He was chairman of the precinct for eight years before the controversial Jan. 4 meeting that elected Luis Q. Kapileo as his successor.
The GOP leadership has described the decisions made during the Jan. 4 meeting as “invalid.”
Aside from Sablan, the other Precinct 4 club officers elected on Monday were Anthony Camacho, vice chairman, and Eileen Babauta, secretary and treasurer.
The election was held at Sablan’s house.
The selection of candidates for the House of Representatives will be held this week, but according to the Kapileo group, most of the newly selected precinct leaders are likely to support the nominations of Sylvestre Iguel and Barbara Yamada.
The two were nominated in the Jan. 4 meeting, but the precinct’s incumbent House member, Candido B. Taman, R-Saipan, has said he will run with or without his party’s endorsement.
According to the amended party bylaws, the elected precinct club officers will select the GOP candidates for representatives.
GOP secretary Kimo Rosario said in a telephone interview that anybody in the party who wishes to run for representative can submit a letter of intent and it will be the precinct club officers who will decide who to nominate.
Kapileo said he and his group “believe that the results of the elections in November will indicate whether this process is right or wrong,”
The election of GOP club officers for Precinct 1 was postponed due to the lack of a quorum.
Rosario said only four of the eight precinct leaders showed up — Moses Fejeran, Rhonda Nogis, Luis John Castro and former Rep. Ana S. Teregeyo.
Incumbent GOP Rep. Benjamin B. Seman of Precinct 1 told Variety yesterday that he is not seeking reelection.
