Scholarships to the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning, or PREL.
Applicants must reside in American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern
Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Republic
of the Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Palau.
Applicants must also intend to teach in a public school in the U.S. affiliated
program.
Those interested in applying are asked to visit the PREL Web site at www.prel.org/scholarship
for directions on how to apply. Applications must be received at the Honolulu
PREL offices by April 1, 2007.
According to a Guam Public School System press release, PREL is an independent,
non-profit corporation that serves the educational community in the U.S.
affiliated Pacific Islands, the U.S. Mainland, and countries throughout
the world.
The organization created the scholarship fund in 2004 in an effort to
increase the number of qualified teachers working in the U.S. affiliated
Pacific Islands.
According to the GPSS release, 17 aspiring teachers in the region have
already been awarded $500 scholarships.
For further information on the organization or its scholarship, contact
PREL at (808) 441-1300.
