Governor’s daughter inducted to English honor society

CHRISTINE Fitial, daughter of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, was recently inducted into the prestigious English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta at the University of San Diego, a media release stated.
Christine Fitial was inducted on March 24 into Alpha Nu Mu, the USD chapter of Sigma Tau Delta. The 21-year-old junior was also initiated as the chapter’s treasurer.
Sigma Tau Delta is an international honor society for English majors who have demonstrated excellence in the subject.
Being a member of the honor society guarantees that the student will be graduating with honors in their major.
Of the hundreds of English majors at USD, approximately 25 were inducted along with Christine Fitial.
“I am so glad that I will be working with you on the executive board next year,” said Dr. Peter Kanelos, faculty sponsor of the honor society, in congratulating Fitial on her induction. “You have one of the toughest jobs, handling the money, but I trust you’ll do great.”
Fitial is pursuing a double major in English and psychology.
She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 2004 as president of her senior class. She intends to pursue a masters degree in English upon completion of her undergraduate studies in May 2008.
