GOVERNOR Felix P. Camacho has appointed Major General Donald J. Goldhorn as Guam’s Homeland Security Advisor.
Goldhorn replaces Lt. Gov. Michael W. Cruz, who has served as interim Homeland Security advisor since the administration took office on Jan. 1, 2007.
Goldhorn is also the adjutant general of the Guam National Guard.  He is now one of 12 adjutants general across the nation who serves as Homeland Security advisors.
In appointing Goldhorn, the governor said he is confident that Goldhorn would do well because he is a decorated soldier and has shown effective management leadership ability.
“Major General Goldhorn has demonstrated his commitment to our island and our nation in his current role within the Guam National Guard. I am confident his leadership skills, dedication and expertise will continue to move our Homeland Security efforts in the right direction,” the governor said in a statement.
Goldhorn was appointed adjutant general of the Guam National Guard in March 2005 and serves as the principle advisor to the governor of Guam on all military matters.
He is directly responsible for the readiness, management and combat effectiveness of more than 1,100 men and women of the Guam Army and Air National Guard.
Goldhorn previously served as the chief of staff of the Guam Army National Guard Headquarters from 1995 to 1999.
Goldhorn began his military career in 1969 as a first lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps.  He served 11 months in Vietnam, holding various command positions with the 51st Medical Company and the Headquarters Detachment of the 67th EVAC Hospital.
