Northern police, fire station to be completed in April

THE Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority said a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Guam Police Department and the Guam Fire Department is scheduled for April 19.
GHURA director Ronald de Guzman said the project will be completed by then.
The $2.3 million facility is located along Marine Corps Drive.
According to de Guzman, the soon-to-be occupants of the facility are “excited” about the move.
Residents of northern Guam know of the conditions of their current public safety facility. One Dededo resident called the building “dilapidated.”
Of the $2.3 million, $1.7 million was paid through GHURA’s Community Development Block Grant Program, and the remainder was paid through Compact-Impact funds.
The facility will sit on three acres of donated land from the Ancestral Lands Commission. According to de Guzman, the commission gave them the land for 50 years lease free.
There are other projects in the planning for another police and fire station in the Agat/Santa Rita and Tamuning.
According to de Guzman, the Guam Fire Department is in the process of working on a “land swap” in Tamuning to relocate the existing fire station.
Another project that is due for completion in August is the Barrigada fire station.
