AS Frank Rios
and Errol Angoco return from round one of the 2007 FIM UAM Asian Motocross
Championship Series they prove that Guam can compete in any and every
sport out there.
Frank Rios raced in the UAM 125cc class and finished in 16th in both motos
giving him an overall standing of 17th. The UAM saw a much improved field
of riders for the 2007 series. Angoco a very aggressive rider was at a
strong disadvantage by not riding his own bike.
Instead he rode a 2002 Honda 80 racing in the UAM 85cc class. This lead
too many tangles and crashes with slower racers on the day. Despite the
disadvantage Angoco would finish 7th and 5th in the two motos giving him
an overall place of 5th.
A record 15 nation attendance in the first round proved the growing popularity
of this sport in the 125cc class Thailands Arnon Theplib would take
the 1st place honors riding a Honda CRF250R.
Australias Kane Scanlan and the Philippines Glen Aguilar took
2nd and 3rd respectively. In the 85cc class Thailands Arongkot Pinpon
would take 1st. Other Guam riders racing in the Philippine National Races
participated in the weekend events. James JR Cepeda Jr. a
first time international rider would compete in the Junior 65cc class
and would finish 6th overall.
Bryan Pine would finish 1st in both the Executive and Veteran classes.
Dr. Stan Yasuhiro would finish 3rd in the Veteran class. With the first
round being held in Puerto Princessa, Palawan in the Philippines the riders
had to race away from home. This is something they will not have to do
for the second round.
The second round of the 2007 FIM UAM Asian Motocross Championship is scheduled
to be here on Guam at the Jose and Herminia Calvo Memorial Raceway Park
on June 24th, 2007.
This GVB event will be the 5th year that the international event takes
place on Guam.
