PROA temporarily grabbed the lead in the 2007 Men’s Fast-pitch Softball League, while the San Vicente Sunrisers ended their two-game losing streak following their separate wins last Tuesday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
Proa notched its second victory in as many games after downing the Tanapag Falcons, 11-6.
Pitcher Tony Satur and the Proa defense denied the Falcons any runs in the first two innings to take a 5-0 lead.
Proa never looked back from thereon, despite the Falcons’ scoring five runs at the bottom of the fourth.
L. Camacho was perfect for Proa going 2-for-2 with one run, while Manny Sablan went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, a single and a double and Tony Celis was 2-for-5 at the plate with two singles.
Isaac Aguon led the Falcons’ losing cause going 2-for-3. Dustin Quitugua and K. Quitugua both hit 2-for-4 and had one run apiece.
With the win, Proa is ahead by one victory against the defending champion D-9ers, who were gunning for a 2-0 record against Che’luus last night.
The D-9ers and Che’luus were playing in the second match, while Proa was facing the Islanders in the first game. The results of those matches were unavailable at press time.
In last Tuesday’s first game, the Sunrisers ended their two-game losing skid with a 10-3 victory over the Islanders.
The Sunrisers dropped their first two matches against Proa, 6-11, in the league opener on March 20, and against the Falcons on Match 22, 6-15.
But in their third game, pitcher Manny Cabrera and his teammates limited the Islanders to three runs and ended the game after only six and a half innings.
Cabrera pitched in four innings and had four strikeouts. He was replaced by Tony Camacho at the top of fifth.
The Sunrisers had three players scoring two runs each in David Kapileo, Randall Aguon and Ben Mesa. Kapileo was 3-for-4, Aguon went 2-for-3 and Mesa and Jack Delos Santos both were 2-for-4 at the plate.
