P. Camacho yesterday unveiled the newly renovated Merizo Branch Library,
completing the process of renovating and reopening all of Guams
libraries.
In February of last year, Camacho approved funding for renovations to
the five branch libraries.
The Yona Library was reopened in August and Barrigada in November of last
year. In February of 2007, the Agat Library re-opened its doors and now
the Merizo Library, under renovations since July, finally reopened.
Last year, we were able to dedicate funds to our Library System
to renovate, repair and reopen all our branch libraries. Today, with the
reopening of our Merizo branch, we have completed the project and now
all our branches are open for Guams children and library patrons
throughout the island, the governor said in a statement.
The total construction cost for the Merizo branch was $36,861.87. The
newly renovated Merizo Branch Library features the following:
* Six computers with broadband Internet access and Microsoft Word and
Excel for patrons;
* A Childrens Collections and Reading Area;
* A Juvenile/Young Adults Collection;
* Other Collections;
* Reference Collections;
* A Special Collection on Guam History and Chamorro Culture; and
* A National Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (Talking
Book Tapes and Braille Books).
The Merizo public librarys total book collections now stand at 22,227
while its registered borrowers total 801.
