GOVERNOR Felix P. Camacho yesterday unveiled the newly renovated Merizo Branch Library, completing the process of renovating and reopening all of Guam’s libraries.
In February of last year, Camacho approved funding for renovations to the five branch libraries.
The Yona Library was reopened in August and Barrigada in November of last year. In February of 2007, the Agat Library re-opened its doors and now the Merizo Library, under renovations since July, finally reopened.
“Last year, we were able to dedicate funds to our Library System to renovate, repair and reopen all our branch libraries. Today, with the reopening of our Merizo branch, we have completed the project and now all our branches are open for Guam’s children and library patrons throughout the island,” the governor said in a statement.
The total construction cost for the Merizo branch was $36,861.87. The newly renovated Merizo Branch Library features the following:
* Six computers with broadband Internet access and Microsoft Word and Excel for patrons;
* A Children’s Collections and Reading Area;
* A Juvenile/Young Adults Collection;
* Other Collections;
* Reference Collections;
* A Special Collection on Guam History and Chamorro Culture; and
* A National Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (Talking Book Tapes and Braille Books).
The Merizo public library’s total book collections now stand at 22,227 while its registered borrowers total 801.
