Delegate Jonathan
Isechal has requested all members of the House of Delegates to comply
with a house rule that mandates them to submit quarterly financial reports
enumerating the expenses of each House.
In his letter on Friday April 20 to newly installed Speaker Antonio Bells,
the lawmaker from Peleliu told his colleague to tale the necessary measures
to comply with Rule 13(b) of the HOD Rules of Procedure.
The said rule stated that the Speaker and the Senate President should
issue together quarterly reports on the financial position of the OEK
that should contain a full accounting.
Isechal said that since the inception, the 7th OEK has yet to comply with
the rule.
"In light of our recent transition in leadership and the call for
transparency made by our House of Delegates, I feel that it is our responsibility
to lead the way in demonstrating the true meaning of such transparency,"
Isechal wrote.
He said that by complying with the rule, and taking measures to rectify
past failure to provide such reports, "we as a House, will demonstrate
our commitment to transparent and forthright government action both to
our constituents and to the other branches of the government of the Republic
of Palau."
