Saipan Revolution shuts out four Guam foes, sweeps five games

The Saipan Revolution swept all of its five games in the Guam Football Association/Cars Plus Robbie Webber Youth League Jamboree last Saturday at Harmon Field.
The five-game sweep was highlighted by a 5-3 triumph over selected players from the A Division.
Ryan Barron and Shu Sato scored two goals apiece, while Andrew Johnson had one to lead Saipan Revolution, which is composed of 12-and-under players.
Saipan Revolution delivered in a close game despite playing the whole Saturday.
According to coach Emily Gries, prior to their last game, the team had to vote whether to play or nor in the fifth match.
“The vote was yes without question. Revolution agreed to play hard in one final game and they stuck to their decision to win,” Gries said in an email.
“This game wrapped up the day with a perfect tough as the entire team came together and played a phenomenal game of football. Both goal keepers, Bo Barry and RJ Knecht went beyond the call of duty with saves you usually only see in U-18 game,” she added.
Gries said after Guam made the first goal, Revolution got its act together and pulled off the win.
“The entire team starting with the goal keepers all the way up to the forwards responded with intensity and determination that they seemed to have kept a secret all day long,” Gries said.
Saipan Revolution debuted against the Lady Crushers with Kaisei Toda and Sato leading the NMI strikers to a 2-0 win.
“Captain and center midfielder Shu Sato and forward Kasei Toda put together beautiful passing and shooting combinations to provide scoring opportunities, while defenders Cyrena Pattilo, Grace Brostrom, Kallie O’Conner and Juliana Muna held strong on defense, hardly anyone got through them.
Saipan Revolution was deadlier in its second game posting another shutout win, 5-0, against ASC Gat-Gold.
Jake Lee, Clay McCullough-Stearns and Mason Fruit delivered the goals for Saipan Revolution.
“Offensively, the outside midfielders RJ Knecht and Clay dominated this game by giving the center midfielders passing lanes to get the ball down the field and back across again to the middle for a shot. In the middle, the threesome of Crosby Schultz, Ryan Baron and Christian Miller worked smoothly, switching the field often to keep Gat-Gold on their toes,” Gries said.
Dorren Ravell, Crosby, Toda and Sato scored a goal apiece in Saipan Revolution’s 3-0 triumph over Tumon.
“Our opponents in the third game gave us a tougher match this time. We had a tough time getting our offense started but defenders Kallie, Grace, Cyrena and Juliana kept the Tumon offensive line out of their goal as they kept pushing the ball forward,” Gries said.
Saipan Revolution’s fourth shut-out win was against top players from Dededo Gold and Isa Betde with Baron scoring the lone goal of the match in the last two minutes of the second half.
The game against Dededo Gold and Isa Betde (Division A) was the first exhibition match for Saipan Revolution. The second one was against the selection of players from Division A.
“Our players seemed to be getting a little tired as this was their fourth game of the day. But on defense, our goal keeper Mason Fruit made a few great saves for a shut-out win.”
