THE Chalan Kanoa Bears and the Ol’Aces II needed an extra inning to thwart separate rivals in the Majors division, while the Fielders remained undefeated in the Juniors division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament last Sunday.
Derrick Olopai went 3-for-3 for the Bears, but it was RJ Villagomez’ inside-the-park homer in the seventh inning that lifted their team to a 5-4 win over the Wells Fargo/As Matuis Twins at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Twins struck out the Bears’ first two batters at the bottom of the seventh, but the former failed to shut out the latter, as Villagomez delivered the game-winning home run.
The victory improved the Bears’ record to 3-3, while the Twins absorbed their second straight loss and third overall in nine games.
The Ol’Aces II also played extended minutes before pulling off a 9-8 triumph over the Toyota Matrix.
The game was tied at 7-7 after six regular innings and the Matrix took a one-point lead, 8-7, after the top of the seventh.
The Matrix pitcher walked the Ol’Aces II leadoff batter Isaiah Nepaial, who later moved to second off a Caleb Arriola single.
Jacob Flores was the Ol’Aces II’s third batter and he hit a single to right field driving Nepaial and Arriola home to end the match.
The Ol’Aces II gained their seventh win in nine games, while the Matrix dropped to a 2-7 slate.
Other Majors games winners were the Tanapag Braves and the Hustlers.
The Braves notched a 13-3 triumph over the San Vicente A’s after only five innings.
Jothan Camacho went 4-for-4 for the Braves with two runs, a single, two doubles and two RBIs.
The Braves improved to a 7-2 record, while the A’s dropped to a 3-7 slate.
The Hustlers also had an easy time against the Jets nailing a 23-2 victory after only four innings.
AJ Lizama pitched in three innings and had six strikeouts, while Austin Lizama went 4-for-4 at the plate. Austin had two inside-the-park homers, a double a triple and five RBIs.
The Hustlers claimed their sixth win in seven games, while the Jets remain winless in nine matches.
Juniors: Fielders 9, Jets 5
Over at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield, the Fielders improved to an 8-0 record after downing the Jets.
In the other Juniors game, Eric Tenorio went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double to lead the Hustlers to a 9-3 win over the Warriors.
Seniors: Falcons 13, Fielders 0
In the Seniors division, the Falcons blanked the Fielders, 13-0.
