THE six-year-old
boy who was taken to the Guam Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon after
being pulled from a pool in the Garden Villa in Tumon died Monday at 10:40
p.m., bringing to six the number of drowning victims on Guam for the year.
According to the GMH nursing supervisor on duty, the boy was on a respirator
in the hospitals pediatric intensive care unit since he was brought
there Saturday night.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola told Variety that he did not
conduct an autopsy on the boys remains.
There was no autopsy needed. I just examined his remains,
Espinola told Variety. I signed it (the cause of death) as near
drowning. There is no point in doing an autopsy on those cases that are
hospitalized after near drowning.
Emergency responders rushed to the pool in Garden Villa in Tumon a little
before 3 p.m. Saturday after the boy was reported to have nearly drowned.
Garden Villa, a condominium complex, is located across the street from
the Fiesta Resort.
In April alone, there were three drowning deaths, including the boy who
died April 30.
On April 23, the body of Auti Akineo Kasuta, 35, was pulled from waters
off Tanguisson Beach. He was the fifth drowning victim.
On April 5, the fourth drowing victim, a 33-year-old man, was pulled from
Ypao Beach waters. He remained at GMH until he died on April 6.
