A GUAM resident filed a lawsuit against the U.S government after sustaining injury in the U.S. Post Office branch in Agana.
Frank Lizama, through Atty. William L. Gavras, filed before the District Court of Guam a complaint for damages under the Federal Tort Act.
According to the complaint, Lizama was on the walkway of the U.S. Post Office Agana branch on May 9, 2006 at around 5:45 p.m. when he tripped and fell and sustained severe personal bodily injury.
The plaintiff said the U.S. Post Office left a gap between the walkway surface. The said gap was a result of negligent maintenance of the walkway, providing a danger and hazard to the public who traversed the premises, he said.
Lizama complained that as a result of the U.S. Post Office’s negligence in not properly maintaining premises and not providing a safe walkway, he was forced to endure severe pain, lost enjoyment of life and suffer from mental and emotional distress.
He needs medical treatment that costs him expenses, and sustain lost income and benefits, according to the plaintiff.
Lizama is asking for monetary compensation in an amount to be determined at trial.
