GECKOS aren’t known for their aquatic abilities, but that was not the case for George Washington Saturday as they surprised everyone with a win in the Girls’ IIAAG Karerån Galaide.
The team would take first in the 1000m sprint, finishing with a time of 7:17.76, about eight minutes in front of the second place finisher St. Paul’s. The Geckos weren’t the only ones to make a surprising first place finish Saturday. The St. John’s Knights would take first also in the 1000m sprint but in the Mixed Division.
The Knights would finish with a time of 6:41.87 nearly six minutes ahead of the Geckos. The John F. Kennedy Islanders would finish in first for the Men’s 1000m sprint with a time of 6:11.18.
In the second race, the 500m Sprint, the Sharks of Simon Sanchez would finish first in the Men’s sprint with a time of 2:42.15. The Dolphins from Southern High would finish first for the Women’s 500m sprint by just over a minute with the time of 3:33.05. The Geckos would take the win in the mixed 500m sprint.
In the Manohoben division the Sharks would take first in the Men’s 1000m Sprint, the Islanders’ Women would take first in their race, and the Notre Dame Royals would take first in their mixed 1000m sprint.
The Sharks would also take first in the Men’s 500m sprint along with the mixed 500m sprint. The Royals’ women would take first in their 500m sprint. Each team is getting stronger as the season progresses, ensuring that the races will tighten up down the stretch.
The last race of the season will be held this Saturday May 5.
