US-based Tongan named reconciliation advisor

NUKUALOFA (Pacnews) — A special adviser on reconciliation has been appointed to the Tongan prime minister’s office.
Villiami Afeaki’s task will be to improve cultural relationships in the wake of race riots which left much of the capital, Nuku’alofa, in ruins last November.
The prominent Tongan, who has been living in the United States since the mid-1990s, will be in charge of programs aimed at renewing traditions of mutual respect and cooperation.
