TAJ Van Buren started the game with a triple from the left corner setting the tone for a DCCA hot-shooting night, as the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs made 11 more treys en route to demolishing the Legislature, 108-56, in the 2007 Inter-government Basketball League last Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
The win was DCCA’s fourth in as many games putting them in the solo lead in Pool B.
After Van Buren’s first triple, he hit another one, while Zack Diaz also nailed back-to-back triples to tie the game at 6-all.
But that was the closest that the Lawmakers could get, as Van Buren added five more points in the first quarter, which ended with DCCA up by 13, 30-17.
Elias Rangamar joined the scoring spree firing two triples in the second period, while Peter Camacho finished the first half with his first 3-pointer to give DCCA a 55-31 halftime lead.
Frank Iginoef failed to make a single triple, but he drilled 12 of his 19 points in the third quarter to increase DCCA’s lead to 37, 81-44, entering the final canto.
Connie Camacho, who did not play in the first half, made her presence felt in the fourth quarter connecting on four triples to put the finishing touches on DCCA’s well-oiled offense.
Van Buren topscored for DCCA with 22 points, 15 of them coming from the 3-point area. Iginoef chipped in 19, while Mario Sablan added 18. Connie Camacho finished with 16 markers, while Rangamar and Peter Camacho contributed 10 points apiece.
Asterio paced the Legislature with 19 points, while Diaz had 18, but the Lawmakers are still winless in four games.
In the second game, Jerome Reyes and Jawn Joyner combined for 53 points to power the Airport Rescue Firefighters to a 79-65 victory over the Public School System.
It was a come-from-behind win for the Firedawgs, who were down at halftime, 32-23.
Joyner and Reyes joined forces in ARFF’s explosion in the third period scoring 26 of the Firedawgs’ 36 points.
The PSS Schoolers had only 11 markers in the third canto to hand the Firedawgs the lead, 59-43, entering the fourth quarter.
PSS never recovered from thereon, as Reyes picked up where he left off in the fourth period adding 14 more points.
Reyes finished with 31 points, while Joyner chipped in 22.
Lawrence Buniag led PSS’s losing cause with 21 points. The Schoolers absorbed their third straight loss in four games.
The Firedawgs improved to a 2-2 record.
