MEMBERS of the
Drag Racing Club of Saipan will compete in the Circle K Drag Strip tournament
this weekend at the Calvo Memorial Raceway Park in Yigo, Guam.
Representing DRCS in the tournament, which will run from Friday to Sunday,
are Kazunori Ikeda (1971 Chevy El Camino), Jay Jones (1993 Mazda RX7),
Luis Guerrero, Gus Camacho, & Sang Kim (1970 Datsun 510), Paul Deleon
Guerrero (Acura Integra LS), Steven Llagas (1989 Nissan Hard Body), and
Gerard Benevente (1990 Toyota Hilux). Support crews are Frances Dela Cruz,
Gregory and Lucy Hurst, Joe Borja, Vee Jay Camacho, James Cabrera, and
Justin Taitano.
The three-day event will kick off with the Friday Night Drag Racing,
which is a street racing and will feature the top racers of Guam.
Saipan riders will see action this Saturday with the Guam-Saipan
Drag Challenge.
On Sunday, Saipan riders will be allowed to display their cars at the
AutoJam 2007 Car Show at the Paseo Stadium in Hagatna.
It will be a whole weekend filled with racing activities. We will
be flying there on Thursday to prepare our cars, Ikeda said in an
email.
The cars of DRCS have been on Guam since midway through April, as Saipan
racers also competed in the 2007 Guam Smokin Wheels Extravaganza.
Saipan racers won in three events in the Smokin Wheels.
Benavente placed second in the 15-second class, while Gus Camacho was
a runnerup in the 13-second class. Ikeda finished third in the 12-second
class.
Meanwhile, DRCS thanked Shell Marianas, Saipan Shipping Co, Sea Bridge,

Juan Santiago Tenorio, Roman Palacios, Mike Sablan, Bretha Torres, Ray
Villagomez, Ray (Bo Kiyu) Villagomez, Jesus Villagomez, Ben Borja and
Roel Dorion for their support.
