Peched Raw rallied
back in the final stretch to defeat the Ngermid Rivals, 83-73, in their
championship duel for Division I crown of the 2007 Shell National Basketball
League at the Palau National Gymnasium last Friday April 27.
Sunshine Soalablai scored 15 of his game high 23 points in the fourth
quarter to help lift Peched to victory.
Also contributing well in the endgame was Weston Ketebengang, who had
nine of his 13 in the fourth, as the team came back from a 48-55 third
quarter deficit by scoring 35 points as against 18 from the Rivals in
the fourth quarter.
Calson Dulei had 12 of his 21 in the first, where Peched established a
22-15 lead but nearly blew it up as the Rivals rallied to take a 35-34
advantage and controlled the tempo of the game in the third.
In the consolation play, the Styxers finished third via a 91-71 win over
the Ikelauans.
Perry had a night high of 35 points as the Styxers recovered from a 14-23
first quarter deficit on the way to the win.
The Standings after the Division Finals showed Peched Raw on top, Rivals
(2nd), Styxers (3rd), Ikelauans (4th), Ididers (5th), Islanders (6th),
Meda (7th), Surangel Suns (8th), Breakers (9th), Ranchers (10th), Masons
Hardware (11th), Bullets (12th), Blue Sharks (13th), PCC Mesekiu (14th),
Mesang (15th), Peches (16th), 79ers (17th), Stingers (18th), Airai (19th),
PPR (20th), Kabong (21st), On fire (22nd), Klebokl (23rd), Jaguars (24th),
Ngial Central (25th) and Kinsmen (26th).
Meanwhile, the first round of the Season Playoffs started last night with
the Stingers beating Klebokel, 95-87.
The Mesang-Kinsmen encounter was still in progress last night.
Peched Raw is the defending champion for the Season Playoffs.
Todays games will be between Airai and On fire at 6 p.m., 79ers
vs. Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. and PPR vs. Kabong at 9 p.m.
