BARGAIN-hunters got a treat yesterday from the Hafa Adai Beach Hotel which was disposing of old furniture and appliances at very low prices.
A small-sized bed with headboard and mattress sold for just $5.
Hotel staff members said they sold at least 100 beds within a few hours.
Most of them were sold to low-paid foreign workers who gathered in the hotel’s parking lot yesterday morning to take advantage of the sale.
“This is a very good deal. Where else can you buy a bed for $5?” one of them said.
Kasunori Yabuki, the hotel’s general manager, said they have disposed of the old furniture and appliances in preparation for renovations.
Hafa Adai Beach Hotel is the tallest and the largest among the hotels in Saipan.
The Japanese-owned hotel has three buildings — the 7-story main wing, the 10-story Crystal Tower and the 18-story Taga Tower.
Hotel staffers said furniture and appliances from at least two floors were sold.
The hotel disposed of at least 54 television sets by selling them at $10 each.
Dozens of night tables with lamps were sold at $3 each.
Mirrors with hardwood frames sold at $5 apiece.
Mini-refrigerators in good running condition were sold for $10 each.
Unused curtain material was sold for $50 a roll.
Used hair dryers and hand-woven baskets were sold at 50 cents each while wooden chairs and desks were sold for between $5 and $10 each.
The desks and chairs were still in good condition and were made of hard quality wood.
But, as they say, the early bird catches the worm. A lot of people who trooped to the hotel also went home empty-handed.
Sunshine and Joan, both beauty parlor attendants, were among those who didn’t get anything.
The two wanted to buy mirrors
