A BOAT owned by a police officer had to be assisted by the Department of Public Safety when it ran into trouble on Saturday.
DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said police received a call on April 28 at 6:49 p.m. about the boat which was about eight miles west of Saipan.
The DPS Boating Safety Section immediately launched the Zodiac III. The distressed vessel was a 17-foot green/white boat with a 130-horsepower Yamaha engine.
Its operator and owner is Jesse Dubrall, a member of the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
Dubrall was with a companion, Roy Kaipat, when the boat was rescued by the DPS Boating Safety Section at 7:41 p.m.
The boat was located about 11 miles west of Saipan at the time.
Boating Safety officers towed the boat back to Smiling Cove Marina, and no citation was issued to the owner of the vessel which was found to be in compliance with the law.
The boat had left the Garapan Fishing Base earlier that day for trolling and bottom-fishing.
This was the second time that Dubrall’s boat has had problems while trolling and fishing.
A week ago, the same boat encountered the same problem, seven miles west of Sugar Dock.
