A 17-year-old
student allegedly beaten at George Washington High School on Friday was
discharged yesterday afternoon from the Guam Memorial Hospitals
Surgical Unit, according to a GMH nursing supervisor.
The Guam Public School System and the Guam Police Departments Juvenile
Investigation Section are still investigating the school beating that
happened on Friday.
GPSS Superintendent Luis Reyes told Variety that he had spoken with the
boys mother the day before.
She is concerned about whether her son can be transferred to another
school. She said he feels traumatized, and so does she. So we are working
now at seeing if the boy could be transferred, Reyes said.
The case remains under investigation by GPSS and GPDs Juvenile Investigation
Section.
Reyes added that high school students tend to get excited towards the
end of the school year.
Towards the end of the school year we will be moving staff from
our central office to the high schools to be sure that another incident
like this doesnt happen, he said.
Department of Youth Affairs director Chris Duenas told Variety the two
boys held in connection with the beating are students at George Washington
High School and are 15 and 16 years old.
The two were scheduled to have a court hearing yesterday afternoon; however,
details were not available as the hearing was held in juvenile court,
where media personnel are not allowed.
Guam Police Department public information officer Allan Guzman said the
department will have an unmarked presence in the school. He could not
release further details about why the boys allegedly beat up the 17-year-old.
