Guam International Tennis Open to kick off Friday

GUAM is gearing up for the 4th Annual Guam International Tennis Open this Friday. The event will be held at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa tennis courts, Friday 5:00 pm.
This is Guam’s premier tennis event and is to showcase some of the best players in the Marianas Region. More than 60 players in several skill and age divisions will face off this opening weekend. In first-round action, the top-seeded team of Bill Camacho and Wendell Roden will take on CNMI’s Ryan Jimenez and Chuck Sayon, while the second-seeded duo of Torgun Smith and Craig Tsuda will face Stephan Gibson and Brent Goodwin in the men’s 35+ doubles division.
Also playing opening round matches in the same division are Joe Alexander and Richard Cherry against Kaina Tapu and Curt Wyatt. In the men’s 4.0 doubles division, netters Jorge Alcantara and Bobby James Cruz play CNMI’s Eli Buenaventura and Roy Pangelinan.
The opening round match for the women’s 4.0 doubles division will pit the team of Katsura Nishizawa and Liza Provido against Allie and Andrea Lai. The scheduling format for match play is on a followed by basis.
Five other matches will follow Friday’s opening round matches. Saturday and Sunday’s matches begin at 8 a.m. For more information, or to see the complete draw for all divisions visit www.guamopen.com.
