Ace Hardware Aces maintain PABL lead

By Kyle Terwilliger
Variety News Staff

THE Ace Hardware Aces made it known that they are a team to be reckoned with in the PABL. The Aces led by a team scoring presence won again Sunday this time rolling over the Livehouse Lancers 89-68. The Aces were led by JP Cruz with 18 points, and Fred Peters with 17 points in their balanced attack with multiple players scoring in the game.
The Lancers who were one and one coming into the game and seemed to be a surprise team in the PABL just couldn’t get it done. Bryan Jackson would lead the way for the Lancers with 24 points. Chuck Scott would add 16 points in the loss. The win puts the Aces in first place by a half game over both the Budweiser Kings and the Sign By Dey Chargers both with a 2-0 record.
The Budweiser Kings had the bye week this past week but the Chargers were in action Sunday as they took on the Samurai Bombers who were coming off a tough loss against the Budweiser Kings when they lost by two points in the final seconds of the game. This game would be a war between the Chargers and the Bombers as each team exchanged blow after blow. The Bombers would be led by the Mark Pough with 16 points and Mike Allen with 15 points but it would not be enough to topple the Chargers who were led by Jack Wilson with 21 points and Kelvin Sam with 17 points as they took the game to the final seconds once again.
The Bombers lose another heartbreaker 69-67. With the loss the Bombers drop to 0-2 on the season, and the win keeps the Chargers undefeated. In the first game of the day the Argent Estates Realty team went looking for their first win of the season and would find it against the Jazy Sixers winning 96-65. The Realty team would take the lead early and would never look back. The Realty team was led by Joe Blas with 17 points and Cordell Hill with 14 points as they showed their balanced scoring attack. The Sixers were led by Albert Juan and John Sanchez who had 18 and 17 points respectively.
In the must see match-up of the day the Guam Greyhound National Team took on the MWR Big Navy club, and it shaped up to be one of the best games this year with the Greyhounds getting the victory 91-85.
The Greyhounds also showed their balanced scoring prowess with both Anis Taylor and Reggie Rechebong leading the way with 17 points. Big Navy was led by the 31 points of Gregory Clark, but the Nationals proved that an individual performance does not beat that of a team performance as they move to 2-1 on the season. Big Navy who was a big favorite coming in, drops to 1-2 on the year.
Next weeks match-ups are shaping up to be some good ones as two undefeated teams go head to head to see who will rank supreme as the Sign By Dey Chargers take on the Budweiser Kings. Both military bases will battle to see who is the best as the MWR Big Navy takes on the Samurai Bombers. And two winless teams will battle for their first win of the season as the National Office Supply team battles the Jazy Sixers.
