The Palau National Invasive Species Committee yesterday hosted a half-day National Consultation for Prioritization of Islands for Eradication of Rodents.

The consultation was to coordinate and share information on a project to prioritize islands for eradication of rodents (rats and mice) on islands in Palau , and throughout Micronesia.
Alex Wegmann of Island Conservation, a non-governmental organization with extensive experience in rodent eradication gave a brief presentation on rodents and eradication methods, followed by an introduction to the prioritization project.
Representatives of agencies, organizations, and communities also shared information and consult on the best way to conduct the prioritization project, which will be completed by December 2007.
Island Conservation, a science-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing extinctions and protecting natural ecological and evolutionary processes on islands, has over 10 years’ experience in prioritizing, planning, and conducting invasive mammal eradication projects on islands.
