Three Palauans
were selected as members of the Board of the Micronesian Youth Services
Network following the five-day Conference held at the Ngarachamayong Cultural
Center on April 25-29.
These are Imelda Nakamura of the Voices of Nature, Jennifer Anson of the
vice Presidents Office and Alan Marbou of the Koror State Government
Youth Division.
The officers of the MYSN are Sarah thomas-Nededog of Guam (President),
Dr. Rita Hocog-Inos of CNMI (Vice President), George Cruz of CNMI (Vice
President), Maisie Tenorio of CNMI (Secretary), Dr. Julie Ulloa-Heath
of Guam (Treasurer) and George L. Salas of Guam (Central Secretariat).
The other Board Members are Patrick Diaz (Guam), Grace Leban (Marshall
Islands), Aubrey Hocog (Guam/CNMI), Doreen Tudela (CNMI).
On Friday night April 27 at the Palau Royal Resort, the MYSN awarded the
top 10 youth service supporters for 2006 that included five in Palau.
These were Vice President and Justice Minister Elias Camsek Chin because
of the Law Enforcement Explorers Program, Ministry of Health, Shell Palau
Inc., Rudimch Enterprises and Surangel and Sons Company.
The other awards went to Marian Aldan-Pierce of Duty Free Shop CNMI, Retired
Chief Justice Benjamin J.F. Cruz of Guam, Elias Rangamar (President of
the Basketball Association of CNMI), CITI Group Foundation/CITI Bank of
Guam and Bank of Hawaii in Guam.
The MYSN Conference concluded with a youth rally on Saturday with KSG-SCA
Director Scott Yano delivering a message while Koror State Youth Council
President Vann Isaac as the keynote speaker.
This was followed by presentation and open discussion on three main aspects
with Dr. Judy Ulloa-Heath, Dean of University of Guam on education; Jubilee
Kuartei of the Palau National Olympic Committee on sports; and Margaret
Martin of the Attorney Generals Office on child abuse.
"Success is how you live," Ulloa-Heath told her young audience.
Yano said that after the Conference, it would be the beginning of better
services to the youth in Palau.
The MYSN he said should be a tool to provide better services to help uplift
the flight of the youth who are future leaders of Palau.
Isaac said the youth must ready to face the challenges and do things into
their hands.
He urged the youth of Palau to get involve in sports activities and environmental
issues.
